INTERPRETATION OF NYFW

WEARING: Oak & Fort LS Chiffon Dress, Cyeoms Ca$h Top, American Apparel High Waist Jeans,  Rings by local designers,H&M Heels and Sunnies.

NYFW is on. NY city has been invaded with relevant bloggers and wanna bes from all over the world. Don't get me wrong I am not hating, it is one of my dreams to be there during a fashion week. To watch people as they stroll in and out of places, to be able to see a few of the collections from some of my favourite designers such as Alexander Wang and Helmut Lang. To have memories and stories to tell from my point of view, not to only hear them from others.

NYFW made me ponder about the amount of shows, seasons, and trends the industry has given us as consumers. It is a blessing and a curse. My opinion as a designer, the amount of seasons that have been added in a year is over the board. All I can think is that the fast fashion industry is trying to copy everything in time to sell it for cheaper in some inferior fabric, made abroad. I am not saying don't shop at H&M or Zara; I just think that we don't need everything to be new or follow every trend.

I enjoy re-working or re-wearing the same items. It gives me a chance to be creative with my styling and with my buying. I have always believed that less is more. I wish more consumers would support local shops and independent designers for their creations. I would rather save for one good item than have ten cheap things. This was something my Mom taught me at an early age, it has stuck with me since, and I am grateful.

  5. i super agree. its becoming so saturated and it doesnt excite me anymore. what im interested with is the purity and creativity in fashion. the design per se. and not the " whats new and must haves this season" so tired of it!

  6. Agreed on all counts! Quality over quantity, though I believe the reason for added collections/seasons per year is because of the growing demand for fast fashion. It's good to know there are few who are not so easily swayed by this, although it is very exciting to witness. Hopefully one day we can see NYFW ourselves ;) Misses x

  7. Sometimes "the good items" are far worse than the "cheap items". At least that's what I've learned from my experiences. I used to look for expensive shoes, because I firmly believed they're better quality from all the cheap ones out there. But I was very wrong! Most expensive shoes are expensive because of the fancy brand or because they look fancy. The best shoes I ever bought, were leather boots from a crummy looking shop here in Bulgaria, which cost 20$.
Anyways, adore your gorgeous chiffon dress and high waist jeans, looking so beautiful!

    1. I also agree that some cheap items can go a long way. I have bought plenty of good deals, all I am saying is that just because something is inexpensive does not mean people should buy 5 of it. It is a moderation thing. Somethings are expansive just because of the brand name and the status they have, I def agree with you. I am not that type of shopper I will save and pay a higher ticket price on something I value even if it is not a big brand name or not known to others. I love that we all have opinions, different experiences and that we are able to express them here. x

  9. In a nut shell, agreed. I could go on for days regarding this topic but really I guess I feel that a quote sums it up 'fashion is fleeting and style remains' oh like the array of fine band rings you got I wear mine like this also ;)

  14. i like your idea of reworking items. i try to do that all the time too. but sometimes i fall prey to the trendier pieces, it becomes such a waste when i only get to wear it for one season!

  15. A blessing and a curse indeed. And I agree - a lot of people feel the need to follow every single trend, wether it fits them or not. I say, be yourself, wear whatever YOU are comfortable with.
You look divine in all white, and Cyeoms top is my obsession, love it! xx

  17. I totally agree with that. When I was younger I was very much about fast fashion, but these days I'd much prefer to buy one really great item that I know I'll wear for years than multiple, cheaper 'on trend' pieces I'll throw away after a few wears because they're falling apart or now look dated. Though, some of my favourite pieces have been from cheaper stores & they can last well too if you're smart about the way you shop in those type of stores - only buying things that are your style, that you love & that are made from nice materials .etc... Still obsessed with those sunglasses & they are such a good example of that point, I bet you will still be wearing those years from now!
Also I hate all of the seasons now too, the resort ones I find the worst, I just can't keep up with them all! I think it's fine for highstreet stores to have constantly new pieces, that's the point of them after all, but I think the higher end labels & brands really don't need it, 2 seasons a year is plenty!

  18. Love this all white look!
And i totally agree with you. I always used to buy clothes at h&m: 'wow, it's so cheap i cannot nót buy it!'. But after wearing them for half a year, the pieces got boring.
Nowadays i'm buying about 5 items a year from a 'fast fashion shop'. The rest of the items are more expensive, but they're still looking pretty after wearing them for 2 years, and i'm still not sick of them.
So in the end i think the fast fashion pieces are more expensive.

  19. Yes Melissa, I can see why you are a minimal designer and I also see the beauty of less is more way of thinking. Not only with clothes I think as a way of life. I haven't bought anything new since ages simply because I don't need it and refuse to buy new things that I don't need. I can't afford my favourite designers but I def agree of buying more quality than quantity. I also love buying second hand because I feel the way the clothes were made in the past was very special and you can really find something unique. It's funny because your white on white outfit is something that you will wear now and in 3 years time because refelects your personality and what you stand for but now white on white outfits are even on trend according to the blogosphera...I think everything seems to be trend now these days and it kind of kills the excitment of seeing different styles and personalities, don;t you think?

  22. omg gorgeous outfit! I dont mind wearing things over and over and from "past seasons" I like expensive and inexpensive. But personally i like buying sale items, because then i can justify spending the money i am spending. Wether or not its really pricey or not. Because consumerism is fantastic at all for whatever you are buying.

  23. The more the masses jump on that fast-fashion trend bandwagon, the more good, timeless quality stands out.
I like this 2D monochrome white here - I say 2D because it's an outfit of two whites instead of one. I wore same the other day, white and off-white. It's interesting and it works. :)

  24. i totally agree with fashion moving a bit too fast. we get bombarded with so many things at once, especially during NYFW.. i often feel the need to ease up from the over-exposure. love that you have a strong sense of style. i tend to wear a lot of older pieces in my closet too, quality over quantity anytime!
