WEARING: Zara Turtleneck, H&M Conscious Leather Jacket & Pants, Tibi Bee Mules, & Alexander Wang Marion Bag.

Leather is an essential of any good wardrobe, it has proven its functionality (and coolness) over the years, and if I had to choose one piece that is worth investing in, it will most definitely be a leather one. I do recommend if, like me you are trying to build a functional and timeless wardrobe (free of too many trends) leather is a must. I have no reservations when it comes to purchasing such a piece, I will save up for a year, if thats what it takes (quality over quantity).

Leather can be classic, cool, edgy or rebellious. It creates a beautiful contrast of textures against other materials and it looks sharp when paired together. I treat myself to one leather piece a year, let that be a pair of shoes, a bag or a jacket - it ages well and it is always in. I wear my leather pieces all year round, sometimes layered when it is winter or showing some skin when in the summer. Also, as you can see here I am certainly not afraid to wear leather on leather. This post is dedicated to my friend Mae who started the conversation that led to this week's style topic: to leather or not to leather.

WEARING: Max Mara Coat, Adidas Trefoil Tee, Alexis Jeans, Alexander Wang Lia Bag and Polysemy Jewellery.

Feminine vs masculine? I admire people that can really play in both worlds, mixing the two together in perfect balance. 90% of the time I will wear something androgynous: oversized coats, pants, basic tops, and sneakers (or flat ankle boots like these Acne's). To keep it slightly feminine I wear mostly skinny pants, some jewellery and finish the look with a bag. I have never done the sweet, endearing look, that it is predominate in my city. I normally dress in laid back clothes, and if I am dressing up for a special occasion I may wear a dress, or a skirt and even heels; but the look will continue to have many masculine undertones. What about you: Femme, homme or androgynous?
PS. This past Friday was my anniversary with my boy, we had an amazing time and to top it all he surprised me with this dope Alexander Wang Lia Bag.

WEARING: Carin Wester Coat, Zara Turtleneck, H&M Pants, Adidas Superstars, Rachael Ruddick Le Trop Bag, 8 Other Reasons Rings & THP Shop Cuffs.

From season to season, year after year, black pieces have always been the essential building blocks of my style. It is no secret that I am a fan of black. It is a reliable section of your closet that never lets you down. For any occasion or crisis, black will fufill your needs, make you look effortless and fashionable. It is my go-to option - no doubt, it is also liberating; to free yourself from all the over designs, prints (and all the trends that are attached with colour-season). I have tested some other muted colours, but I do have to say: no matter how "far" I stray, I always come back to black and its infinite possibilities. What is your go-to colour when it comes to building your wardrobe and making styling decisions?

Here are my favourite Instagram shots from Mexico (all taken with my iPhone 6). I decided not to bring my actual camera and just take snaps with my new phone, making the whole experience a lighter and more casual one. If you are not following me already, you can see more shots on my Instagram @melissa.araujo. I can't tell you enough how much I enjoyed being in the sun and around water. Our hotel had beautiful architecture, and marble floors, it was sunny and warm every single day. Let's face it, there is nothing like sleeping in everyday, reading books, laying by the pool and going for a dip in the ocean to start the new year off fresh! Now back to reality, planning for new work opportunities  and life adventures in 2015!
